Perry Liquor Store Owners, Bartender Charged With
Civil Rights Violations, Unfair Trade Practices
TALLAHASSEE -- Attorney General Bob Butterworth today charged
the owners and an employee of a north Florida liquor store
and lounge with civil rights violations and unfair trade practices.
A civil complaint was filed
in Taylor County Circuit Court against David and Diane Holton,
owners of Perry Package Store & Lounge in Perry, and bartender
Patricia Grace Hughes. The complaint seeks monetary damages
for victims and penalties of up to $10,000 per violation of
the Florida Civil Rights Act and up to $10,000 per violation
of the state's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act....reread

Talmadge Branch has served on the Baltimore City delegation
in the Maryland House of Delegates since 1995, and as
Vice-Chair of the powerful House Appropriations Committee
since 2003. A strong advocate for the city of Baltimore,
Branch has championed such issues as funding for Baltimore
City Public Schools and health coverage for state employees
and retirees.
In
Session 2005, Branch was instrumental in securing state
funds to replace UB's exist- ing Academic Center eleva-
tor. "Given all that UB contributes to the city of Baltimore
and to the rest of the state, I and my colleagues on
the committee were pleased to support such a worthy
cause," says Branch on behalf of the Appropria tions
Committee. We are grateful for his efforts in support
of the UB community.

Talmadge Branch received the Key to Belair-Edison
at SpringFest in recognition for his hard work
at getting a State Bond Bill passed enabling renovations
of HUD houses in Belair-Edison by S1. Ambrose.
Also recognized with. the Key were Senator Nathaniel
McFadden, Delegate Hattie Harrison and Delegate

Legislators Discuss Child Welfare
at School of Social Work
Maryland House of Delegates members
Talmadge Branch (foreground) and Melony
Griffith (right) were among the state legislators
and staff who attended a meeting at the School of
Social Work this fall on proposed child welfare
accountability legislation. The bill, among other
things, is expected to call for codifying minimum
caseworker workloads and creating a state child
welfare accountability council.
The meeting, hosted by the School of
Social Work’s Center for Families and its
Institute for Human Services Policy, was led
by Diane Depanfilis, PhD, associate dean
for research at the School, who spoke
about best practices in child welfare
accountability. Others at the meeting
included Jennie Bloom, MSW, associate
dean for administration at the School of
Social Work; Brian Sturdivant, MSW,
coordinator of community affairs, Office
of Government and Community Affairs;
and Judith Schagrin, a School of Social
Work alumna and assistant director for
children’s services at the Baltimore County
Department of Social Services.
